Acceptably Adult

 Well. That was a thing.  First, let me say, I'm not here to yuck your yum. If you like this, fantastic. I loved the first Wonder Woman. It was a solid movie that I think was the first of the new DC movies that really, completely, understood the character that was in the movie. And the first scenes of Wonder Woman in the 80's where she's in the mall are fantastic. And having a big, dumb, fun, colorful movie after 9+ months of death, doom, gloom, quarantine and pandemic might just be what you needed. Fair play to you. I hope you loved it. That said... What the hell was that? What do I mean by that? Well, let me ask you a question: why is it OK that Steve's ghost possessed some innocent dude and then he and Diana drag that guy's body around the world into dangerous situations, risk that life, have sex with, and generally rewrite this guy's life into their personal couple vacation? Not to engage in whataboutism, would you have been ok-ish if that had been a woman? ...

The Thumbnail Initial release is buggy, but not unplayable by any stretch. Engaging story and Keanu's role is more than a walk-on stunt. Fun, quick, and I hope to see more. 8.5 (9 when they finally get rid of all the bugs). Played on a system that does not support ray tracing. The Bad Cyberpunk 2077 is buggy. That's not something that I think anyone can really argue. Of course, almost every game is buggy on first release. CDPR was bit by a commitment to a deadline, a fan base that screamed when that deadline was pushed before, and investors who were growing impatient. All of that, in addition to the increased challenges of working in a world in the middle of a pandemic more or less ensured that this was going to be a bumpy ride for everyone. And here's a hard truth for fans who are disappointed: if you're pissed that the game has bugs on release, and you complained that the deadline was moved back, then you shoulder some of that blame. I saw Suicide Squad . There are spoilers within this review, so if you don’t want to read them, don’t read the review. Also, I review movies based on whether or not they’re worth the money to see them, which is variable based on when you go, and where you see it, and the time to watch it, which is, sadly, constant and in increasingly short supply as you become more of an adult. The TL;DR It’s a pretty good summer movie, but there’s a better movie that you can almost see in the shadow of what is on the screen. Though I was always a Marvel kid growing up, I haven’t read comics in forever, and I’m loving a lot of the DC television stuff, so I don’t think I’m horribly biased. Suicide Squad is a perfectly acceptable summer popcorn flick. It’s not Deadpool , it’s not The Avengers or Captain America: Civil War , but then again, it’s also not Man of Steel* , so it has that going for it. Probably around a 6.5 out of 10.
